Services
In addition to traditional talk-based psychotherapy, I specialize in offering EMDR and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy Services.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured psychotherapy primarily used to treat trauma, especially Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR helps individuals process distressing memories by using bilateral stimulation (side-to-side eye movements, sounds, or tapping) while recalling traumatic events. This modality is based on the idea that trauma disrupts the brain’s natural processing of information, leading to distressing symptoms. EMDR helps reprocess these memories so they are no longer distressing. It is highly effective in reducing trauma-related symptoms, with clients often reporting a decrease in emotional intensity in fewer sessions compared to traditional talk therapy. EMDR can be done in person or virtually, and is covered by health insurance.
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a therapeutic approach that combines the administration of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic, with psychotherapy. Initially used as an anesthetic, ketamine has gained recognition in mental health care for its rapid antidepressant effects, particularly for individuals with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions. Ketamine has been shown to promote neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new neural connections, which can support long-term recovery from mental health conditions. In KAP, ketamine is administered in a clinical setting under the supervision of a therapist, and the patient engages in a psychotherapy session, either during or after the ketamine experience. I work with Hara Health Center and their medical providers to offer KAP in Austin, Texas. KAP is typically not covered by insurance, but I do provide a super-bill for Out of Network reimbursement of medicine sessions.
